Adding Some Spice To My Kitchen.

The kitchen is my least favorite room in my home. While I do enjoy baking on occasion, I do not enjoy cooking, and don’t even get me started on dishes! I figured I should add some decorations to make being in there a little brighter. All of the DIYs I created do make me smile when I look at them and they were all very easy to do. I mainly used materials from Dollar Tree and my Cricut machine with a few extras here and there. Let’s get started.

My first project was decorating the tops of my cabinets. I love the marble trend that’s going on right now. I found marble printed plates at my local Dollar Tree. You can find them here.

The center of the plate is flat then curves up into the outer ridge, in case you can’t tell from the picture, so the first thing I did was measure the center of the plate to make sure the lettering fit. Next I used Cricut Design Space on my computer to pick a font for my letters and cut them out. I put one letter on each plate and I was done. I displayed the plates on top of the cabinets using black wire easels.

To complete my monogram display, I decorated a vase and added flowers.

I taped off the area that I wanted to decorate with masking tape then used Martha Stewart brand of glass etching cream and a thin, plastic brush. My thought was to make random lines to have a marbled effect. It did not work out how I envisioned.

I decided to fill in the unetched spots with more etching cream and varied the thickness to see what the effect would be. It turned out even better than I expected and even had the marbling effect that I was looking for.

Lastly I added the monogram ‘G’ to the vase. The letter stretched when I removed the vinyl from its backing, so I used a blade to trim the top curve and I was able to readjust it to fit.

I stripped the carnations apart from the bunch they were in and added them to the vase.

And here is the vase added to the monogram display.

My next DIY was my ‘coffee corner’ sign. I found this mug shaped chalk board at Target and used gold vinyl for the letters.

I put the vinyl letters on the board, not completely straight, and that was it. I was all done. I told you these were all easy DIYs.

The last DIY, while still very easy, took a long time to do. But I really like how it turned out. I used a bamboo cutting board and stencil from Dollar Tree and a wood burning tool from Wal-Mart.

I used the stencil, which has a lot of different shapes on it, to trace a pattern onto the cutting board.

Then I used the wood burning tool to etch the design into the cutting board. Here is where it took some time. I’m not sure if it was because this was my first time using the tool, or because I wasn’t using it on actual wood, but this was a slightly tedious task.

I do love how this one turned out as well.

The fun thing about these crafts is that anyone can recreate them and they can be done in a variety of patterns or lettering. If you decide to try them, please tag me on social media. I would love to see your creativity!
