Linen Closet Organization

Hey y’all! So, I visited my parents house for vacation a couple weeks ago. My girls and I had a blast! But one thing I took away was that I need to get my life together!! 😂 My mom’s house is so clean and uncluttered! It spoke to me. So now I’m on a quest to de-clutter and organize MY home.

The first place that came to mind when I was trying to figure out where to start was my linen closet. I open the door to the closet every day, but it also causes daily stress. This fist pic is the before shot (please no judgments. This was from a year of accumulation🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️).

When I was visiting my mom we went shopping, as we often do when we are together. I have been looking for new bath towels for about a year and I’m happy to say that I found some at Kohl’s. And they were on sale! I threw out my old towels, most of them, and replaced them with some really soft Sonoma branded towels.

The towels were definitely the easiest part of this project. They were super easy to switch, the next shelf was not.

This is the shelf I use every day. Lotions, toners, shampoos, etc. I needed a way to keep this shelf organized while still keeping it accessible for every day.

I used some stackable cubes from dollar tree to get everything into order.

I removed everything from the shelf and divided them into 3 categories: every-day, not-quite-every-day , and never. Can you guess what I did with the never category? If you said “trash” then you are right! Part of my organizational issues stem from the fact that I’m a hoarder. Yes, I admit it. I like keeping items on the off chance that I may one day, in the future, maybe use the item. I’m trying to change my habits. 😊

Anyway, after trashing the items that I will never use, I started filling the plastic cubes. One has every day items like lotion, toner, make up remover, etc. In the other one I put things like shampoos, conditioners, and sunscreen. I also have a small cube container that I added to this shelf for my every day, most often used makeup.

Everything is easy to see, the cubes are easy to pull out and replace, and best of all I don’t have things falling on me as I search for what I need.

My next two shelves were a major jumble. I took everything off and put it back in a way that made sense for me.

On the upper of the two shelves I decided to house my make up and hair product/accessories. My make up is in a little 3 drawer container. I have brushes and eyeliners in the top drawer, next smaller eye shadows and powders. And in the bottom drawer of the container are what’s left of lip glosses and lipsticks that I sorted through. On the side I have larger eye shadow palettes in a slim slotted basket. In the green plastic caddie I keep my combs, brushes, hair products, rubber bands, etc. This container is perfect for my hair stuff. It has a handle that makes it easy to carry and take to any room in the house.

On the next shelf down I have another caddie with nail polishes and nail accessories. In the other 2 cubed containers I have feminine products, and scented lotions and aromatherapy products. They are all easy to get in and out and the plastic containers keep everything organized and in their place.

At the very bottom I used 2 collapsible storage containers.

I put extra toilet paper in one, and in the other I put pool towels and a few extra older towels that were still nice. I don’t know about anyone else, but I hate the thought of my new fluffy towels being used to clean up spills and messes.

Lastly, I moved what I had on the very bottom to the very top shelf. A small plastic box containing travel toiletries, extra razors, extra toothpaste, etc.

And a plastic box a little larger than that one that contains different hair styling tools. I also added my bag of make up bags that I will one day, maybe use. 😉

I love how this organization project turned out! Everything is so accessible, I don’t have any product falling on me while I try to get something, and I don’t wake up my kids by getting a new roll of toilet paper during nap time.
