New Valentine’s colors!

Valentine’s day, whether you love it or hate it, it will soon be here. I personally don’t care much for the holiday, but you know I love any excuse to make things and decorate. I made a few items in refreshing, pastel, non-traditional v-day colors that I hope you will like. I was inspired by faux roses I saw at the Dollar Tree. They were pale pink, cream, and a beautiful sherbet orange color. I much prefer these to the traditional red and hot pink. Let me share with you.

As always, I made a front door wreath. One of my favorite things to make. I used an 18 inch, wire wreath form from Wal-Mart as my base. I found 15 foot strands of garland at Wal-Mart while shopping the after Christmas deals. I highly recommend everyone doing this at the end of the year, by the way. You’ll find great things! Anyway, I wrapped the garland around the frame. The garland has wire in it so it was easy to secure, however I also reinforced it with hot glue in various places around the wreath. Don’t forget to leave a small loop with the garland to allow the wreath to be hung easily.

After the garland was in place, I trimmed the stems of the faux roses that I found at Dollar Tree and hot glued them into place around wreath form.

Once done with the previous step I used faux ivy, also found at Dollar tree, to accentuate the pretty roses.

Following in a similar manner with front door wreath, I made a small centerpiece for my cabinet top. I used a 9.8 inch, styrofoam wreath form from Dollar Tree and wrapped it in the same garland as above.

I used the same de-stemmed faux flowers to decorate the centerpiece. I decided to skip the faux ivy for this one though.

For display inside the centerpiece, I used 3 slender candles from Dollar Tree. They are white candles within clear glass, so of course I had to decorate them.

I used Cricut Design Space to make a template of the candle, then mapped out how many hearts I wanted to decorate with. Once I was happy with my design, I cut the hearts out using Oracal 651 permanent vinyl in bronze and light orange then placed them randomly on the candles.

Lastly, I found pretty, stemless champagne glasses at Target. The are a rosy pink, with gold trim around the rim.

I personalized them using my Cricut and bronze Oracal 651 permanent vinyl. If you aren’t familiar, this vinyl is perfect for decorating glasses or plates or other items that you can wash, without the vinyl coming off. It is dishwasher safe, but be advised it does have a cure time to properly adhere to the material it is being attached to.

I used Cricut Design Space to properly size the words “ Mr. G” and “Mrs. G” for my glasses. I used the font ‘Asiyah Script’. Once I had the letters cut out, I used clear contact paper to adhere them to the glasses. As usual they are a little crooked. But they wouldn’t be a Kia original if they weren’t. 😊

I love how my Valentine’s day items turned out. I hope you like them too, and I hope you are inspired to make something fun as well.

Happy Valentine’s Day!
