Fun & Easy Gift Idea

Looking for a quick and easy gift for your little helpers? I have a great idea for you. Personalized aprons. I made my girls some for Christmas, but these are great for birthdays, Easter, or anytime. The great thing about an apron is that you can use them for anything. My kids love to help in the kitchen and with the extra help things can get messy. If you have a crafty little one, these are perfect for keeping clothes clean during art projects. Also, they are just fun to play in. They can be used for dress up or play kitchen time as well.

For this project you will need:

  • Cricut machine
  • Easy press or Iron
  • HTV vinyl in whatever colors you would like.

I found these blank aprons at Hobby Lobby. The white ones are child sized and the black one is adult size. I figured I would make myself a cute gift as well.

I started out by deciding where I wanted the name and image on each size apron, then measuring that space. Cricut’s Design Space has an apron template, but I like to make my own template by using just a blank square in whatever dimensions match my space. I think it helps me size images better when I know the exact size that I need to work within.

I used the font ‘Gabriola’ to personalize my girls’ names for their aprons. The images of the little girls were found under the image tab on Design Space. For these exact images search “Black History Month”. They are in a collection done in February 2019 in Collaboration with Shanice Evans (There are a lot of great images in this collection).

Next comes the hardest part of the whole project. Choosing which colors to use for the project. If you are like me, you have an unnecessary amount of vinyl to choose from. I ended up choosing the Cricut Everyday Iron-on in black for the hair and beige for the faces. The white headband was done with the Cricut Glitter Iron-on and the accent was done with the Cricut Foil Iron-on in pink. For the Purple headband I also used the glitter iron-on in the color eggplant. Click on the color names from the exact link.

After cutting out the vinyl, I used my Circuit Easy Press to layer on the heat transfer vinyl. I started with the name and face first, leaving space between the two as to allow room for the hair. There are some little curls and bangs in each hair style so I made sure to line those up perfectly before adhering the hair and eyelashes to the design. Lastly I put the headbands into place, completing my design.  See, easy!

For my apron, I found a frame template online. I used the same sizing technique as mentioned above, then I centered my initials within the frame. I used the ‘Asiyah Script’ font on the letters. My favorite part about my apron is the Cricut Glitter Iron-on that I found. It is a multi-colored glitter that is absolutely gorgeous.  Unfortunately, the pictures don’t do it justice. But if you want to grab a roll for yourself, you can click here for the link.

I love how the three aprons turned out. I can’t wait for my girls to open this gift on Christmas morning. I hope you all are inspired to personalize a gift of your own as well.
