My Joy-ous Christmas Decor

I have a pretty nice size townhouse that fits the needs of my family. However, since I have little kiddies that like to touch things, I only really have one space I can decorate for me. We bought the Brimnes cabinet from IKEA a couple of months ago to house my preschooler’s puzzles, art supplies, and learning materials. Mainly things my 1 year old didn’t need to mess with. It is the perfect height that my youngest can’t reach and my oldest has to stand on her toes if she wants something up there. I immediately knew I could use the top for myself and do a little decorating.

Since Christmas is fast approaching, I wanted to do something festive on top of the cabinet. I love shopping at Dollar Tree and the Target dollar spot to find cute items to decorate with and materials to use for diy, so that’s where I went to design my festive winter-scape.

I like decorating with different heights to make spaces look more full and to add even more interesting elements. I have a nail in my wall above the cabinet that I have used to enhance the decorations I have put up. This time I found tinsel wreaths from Dollar Tree in Silver and Gold and paired them with glittery stars in the same colors. I really like mixing colors and textures together, I think it makes the decorationg stand out more. I used my hot glue gun to mount the stars on top of the tinsel wreaths, then used pipe cleaners to bind the wreaths together. I found some of those at the Dollar Tree in a pack that had silver, gold, green, and red. I used silver and gold on my wall hanging, but that don’t really show through the front once you put them together.

Next I found a fun silver and gold tinsel tree at Dollar Tree. It was already cute but I knew I wanted to dress it up even more, as well as add some color to the decorations. I found the jingle bell lights at Target and decided to wrap them around the tree. The lights actually work with batteries. I tried it and since I don’t have any other lighting elements it didn’t really work in that space. But I love the look with the added pop of color.

I envisioned using ornaments in my decorations in some way. I was hoping for a nice gold lantern, but I didn’t see any at a price I was ready to pay. I found this beautiful glass bowl at Dollar Tree and knew it would be perfect. The long tube of ornaments was also from Dollar Tree and I was able to find the smaller ornaments at Target in their Christmas section. I love the colors and am so thankful they coordinated so well. Again, I really like putting items at different heights to be visually appealing so I used a glass cake stand that was a wedding gift since I know I won’t be using it this holiday season. The bowl fit perfectly. And for even more height, the cake stand is on top of a gold tray that I bought from Marshall’s a while ago. It isn’t very deep, but I flipped it upside down and it added just the right amount of height to be my centerpiece.

The gift boxes and reindeer ornament are all from Dollar Tree, as well as the gold star garland that I twisted with the silver tinsel garland from Target. The Silver box is actually sitting on top of the round plastic container that the gold tinsel came in. I just added some white coffee filters to the container to give it a “tissue paper” effect in case it was seen. But I tried to cover it mostly with the garland. And to finish my Christmas decorations, I chose a wooden cut out of the word ‘Joy’ from Target. I think it adds a perfect final touch.
