Tour My Kids’ Room

Here is my girls’ bedroom. It is probably my favorite space in our home. I don’t spend my days in there, but it is the room I started decorating first. It is also the space that is closest to what I envisioned as far as color and feel. I was so excited to decorate and create a fun room for my kids. I know they love it. My oldest especially loves the polka dot wall and seeing her art work on display. Let’s take a tour.

I love bright and lively colors. When you first walk into the room, that is exactly what you get. Hanging from the ceiling in the center of the room is a diy, pom-pom chandelier made of tissue paper pom-poms. I love it because I was able to find the exact colors to go with the décor and color scheme in the room already.

To the left of the door is a small set of drawers that we use as a dresser for the girls. We purchased it from Wal-Mart when my oldest daughter was first born. It is small enough to not take a lot of space from the room, but large enough to house clothes, towels, hair accessories, pajamas, and blankets for both girls. On top of the set of drawers is a beautiful wooden box gifted to my oldest daughter from one of my great friends. For now we are using it to keep diapers, wipes and pull-ups neat and organized. On the wall are some sticker decals that I found at Target. I try to take advantage of any and all learning opportunities for my kids, so this is a great place to showcase the ABC’s. I know I didn’t hang them straight, but that’s part of the charm. At least, that’s what I tell myself.

Of course, if you are reading this, you surely noticed the post about the polka dot wall I did in the girl’s room. It’s kind of the focal point of the room. It still makes me smile every time I walk in. I didn’t want to make the wall look too busy so I kept it simple with a small gallery space. I used paintings that my oldest daughter created, cut them down to size and put them in matching frames I found at Dollar Tree. I love looking at it!

My girl’s have a ton of books. The ones in their room are only a fraction of the books they own so I needed a place to contain them. This bookcase was found on Amazon. I wanted to keep the color light to add to the brightness of the room. Although, my oldest daughter’s bed is a light wood finish, my youngest daughter’s crib is white. This case helps tie in the crib, especially since I haven’t decorated the wall that it’s on yet. Above the blinds is a pretty garland I found at Target. It has the colors I wanted in the room, but it is a tulle material so it doesn’t distract, while still adding charm to the space.

When we first moved in, my youngest daughter was only 3 months old. I was breastfeeding her and would sit on the edge of her older sisters bed to do so. This needed to change quickly. I searched for a comfy chair that would be functional and stylish. It usually takes me a long time to make a decision like this. I tend to view everything a few times, then can’t decide on the perfect piece so I give up and try again later. That’s exactly what happened in this case. Eventually I found and fell in love with this purple, crushed velvet chair. It is so comfortable! It has helped me during many late nights while breastfeeding, and has also become a reading spot for both of my girls throughout our days. The gold ottoman was the final touch. I love the added pop of gold that emphasizes the bright colors in the room. Both of these pieces I found on Wal-Mart’s website.

As much as I love this room, I’m still deciding what kind of art work I want above the beds and the chair, but you can be sure that when I figure it out, you will be the first to know.
