First/Last Day of School Sign

As we get ready for back to school, I wanted to share a fairly quick and easy craft with you. A super cute cute ‘First day of School’ sign.

Full disclosure, I actually made this last year for my oldest daughter’s first year of preschool. But I still wanted to share because it can be stored and used year after year.

I got the frame, flowers, and cardboard from Dollar Tree and the letters are from Target.

I started by picking out the letter I needed.

I only bought 1 pack of letters. The pack didn’t have enough of the letters that I needed, so I had to improvise. With a ‘C’ and and ‘I’ I made a ‘D’, and with and ‘X’ and an ‘I’ I made a ‘Y’. If you look close you can see it in the word ‘Day’

Next I used the glass from the picture frame to trace a size template onto the poster board. Then placed the letters on to the template.

The word ‘First’ was a little big for the template so I just positioned it in a way that wouldn’t be drastically effected when I cut it. This project can definitely be done with a print out or using a Cricut, but at the time I did this DIY I didn’t have either machine. I still like how it turned out and I probably won’t go back and change anything. My daughter still likes it, so I’m happy.

This is how it looks after I cut everything out.

The next step was to decorate the picture frame. I picked out a few different styles of flowers.

I took them off the stems and moved the flowers around the frame until I was happy with the look. I also added small gems to the centers of the small flowers. Pro tip: always decide on your design before you starting gluing things together.

Then you are done. See, easy! I stored both signs in the picture frame when I replaced all of the contents, that way I have both handy when I need them.
